La Parroquia

"La Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel, a pink granite, Gothic parish church, looking like an ornate candy sculpture, is one of San Miguel de Allende's most famous landmarks as well as one of the finest examples of colonial architecture in Mexico. Standing in the city's main square or zocalo  (called "El Jardin" by the locals), the church was originally built in 1683 but was given a face lift in 1880." Eric took this beautiful picture on one of our first nights out walking the town.

Today was our 2nd day of school and also "Tuesday Market" or Tianguis del Martes, which we had both heard was worth a trip to-- so we got on a local bus and took the 20 minute ride up the hill. I have been to some pretty amazing mercados in Mexico and this one wasn't' quite what either of us expected. Maybe it was because it was hot, dusty and crowded, or because it has been effected by the state of the economy these days, but it was a bit depressed and we didn't stay long. I posted a small album of our first couple of days around town.
