Vamos a regresar!

Today is our last night here in San Miguel de Allende. It has been a wonderful 3 weeks here in Mexico and with my son, Eric. What a great experience this has been for the both of us and such a very special opportunity to have been able to spend 3 weeks together-- mother and son.

Eric really jumped into the language and it has been fun to watch his progression and confidence. I'm posting a short album of our family and our classes these last couple of days. I hope to soon link to some of Eric's albums as he seems to be the photographer between us-- but he is out with friends right now-- too busy to be uploading pictures!

Chela made us chile rellenos for our last meal because Eric had told her it was his favorite-- here is Chela and her daughter-in-law, Veri serving up our meal!

Guanajuato fue bonita!

Home from Guanajuato! We had a great two days, except our rough start on the bus to Guanajuato and for the fact that Montezuma took his revenge on Eric early this morning. So we took an earlier bus back to San Miguel just in time to watch Espana win the World Cup with Chela and her extended family.

Guanajuato was spectacular-- a truly unique, one of a kind cities. I am posting an album, larger than the others as it was impossible to trim down any more. My camera just kept wanting to snap photos trying to capture all the incredible colors and the unique mountainsides filled with houses and the millions of little winedy roads and alleys to get to all of those homes.
A friend from school took the bus up on Saturday morning and met us after breakfast and we spent the day together on a self-guided tour. This was my 3rd visit there, but I had never had the time to truly explore on the ground. Pictures are worth a thousand words, so please check out my album and be patient with the number of photos of this beautiful city.

Planeta.com:
"It is hard not to fall head over heels for this historic silver-mining town, capital of the state of Guanajuato and cradle of Mexico's revolutionary art.

The city (elevation: 6,561 feet; population 95,000) is a mountain town with cobblestone streets and its colonial architecture makes it one of the most picture-perfect cities in all of Mexico. Postcards from this city are among those most likely to end up on a café wall in Paris or Quito. As a result of its unusual urban lay-out and historical monuments Guanajuato City was declared aWorld Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988."

Lluvia Fuerte- Heavy Rain

! Estoy mejor ! I'm better! Robert suggested I make a new post to replace the last one saying I was sick-- I've recovered!

Eric and I were "holed up" in one of the most beautiful places in San Miguel de Allende today during a super heavy downpour. We were out walking; the sky was getting darker and we were on our way to a cafe in El Jardín to do our homework. We stopped in a bookstore in Bella Artes, an x-convent and the site where the beginning of San Miguel as an artist colony began. The rain let loose while we were in the bookstore, creating small rivers in the streets, which were impossible to cross, so we started to explore Bellas Artes and keep dry, finding a table in the Bella Artes' cafe to do our homework. I've posted a small album of our time there-- check it out. I'm also sharing a link to one of Eric's album (click here)-- he has captured some great shots of us both during this trip.

Inferma otra vez

¡ Dios Mios ! I got sick again! I wish I knew what I ate, drank or did so to avoid it in the future, but I can't put my finger on it. Eric and I went out Saturday night. We went to a very nice restaurant which had offered some blues music-- it was a Spanish restaurant where Nirvana use to be-- the Jasso Sibs should remember Nirvana, as we went out for a great dinner there in 2006. At any rate, we shared all of the dishes-- tapas and a bottle of rioja. Then we went to El Jardín for some flan and a cappuchino. Then we went to listen to Benajamín Lara at El Caparal Bar-- remember that "Jasso-Sibs"?? Benajamín was the guy who came to serenade Mamacita at Casa Baranca. We had a great time and Eric really enjoyed listening to him.

Then at 4am, I woke up and Montezuma took his revenge on me! I was pretty sick all morning and stayed in bed all day, kept falling asleep. Eric went and bought me pedialyte and that helped for sure. I had fears of a repeat performance in the hospital like last year-- so I made sure not to get dehydrated and Chela took good care of me too. I woke up this morning feeling much better, although I skipped school hoping to fully recover and get stronger.

This time I'm not posting any pictures illness pictures-- no one needs to see that-- but I'll post some pictures of our tapas and Benajmín Lara-- be sure to check out my two new photo albums.

Chocolate Mexicana y Churros-- Ummmm!

Just a short little entry to share with you how well I am eating and enjoying the tastes of Mexico. You can't get hot chocolate anywhere better than in Mexico! Canela (cinnamon) is what makes Chocolate Mexicana so wonderful and then dip a couple of churros in it and you are in heaven!  I'm posting another short slideshow -- including some of the foods we've recently enjoyed. Chela serves a different soup to us each day-- sopa de zanahorias (carrot), sopa de fideo, sopa de flor de calabasa, sopa de tortilla-- followed by an` entre. She is a marvelous cook and she puts a lot of care into her presentation.

Today I am stayed home and got some things done, including my homework, while Eric went off to play with his new friends :-)
